Diversifying the Face of Medicine
The Wayne State University School of Medicine Black Medical Association (BMA), established in 1969, is one of the institution’s oldest and most active student organizations. As a local affiliate of the Student National Medical Association, BMA is committed to fostering academic excellence, leadership, advocacy, and professional development among Black and underrepresented future physicians. Through collaboration, mentorship, and community engagement, the organization works to address health disparities, uplift underserved communities, and cultivate clinically excellent, culturally responsive, and socially conscious physicians. BMA strives to create a supportive environment where students are empowered to lead with purpose, build community, and advance equity within medicine and beyond.
